When I think of Lake Como, I recognise there is something irresistible in the way it is spectacular. It is a kind of beauty that needs no introduction. The water, the mountains, the iconic villas naturally overlooking postcard-perfect views. It is the lake of glossy magazines, of Hollywood stars (does the name George Clooney ring a bell?) and of those who choose to celebrate in style.
In recent years, Lake Como has become an international symbol of ultra-high-end weddings. Everything here speaks of luxury, of scenography, of the desire to make a statement. It is a destination that has turned beauty into a spectacular experience. And if today it is one of the most sought-after locations in the world, there is a reason for that.
Why choose Lake Como?
If you picture an iconic wedding that also has a strong visual impact, Lake Como is probably one of the most impressive choices you can make. The venues speak for themselves.
Villa Balbiano, with its baroque interiors and the garden that opens onto the water. Villa d’Este, with its history, its impeccable elegance and its illustrious guests. Villa Erba, majestic and perfect for large-scale events. Or Villa del Balbianello, only accessible by boat, which has been chosen as a film set for Star Wars and James Bond. Every villa has its own voice, and all of them tell a certain way of living beauty.
Alongside these icons, there are smaller but equally fascinating properties. Villa Regina Teodolinda, which feels like a private, intimate and curated celebration. Or Villa Cipressi, with its terraces that slope down to the lake, perfect for outdoor ceremonies.

What to know before choosing Lake Como?
The setting is magnificent, but it requires awareness.
The most desirable venues are booked well in advance. The high costs are not just about the venue itself, but about everything that surrounds it. Catering, flower design, music, transport. The local market has adjusted to an international clientele accustomed to excellence and this is reflected in overall prices.
Logistics are not easy. Roads are narrow, traffic is heavy in the summer months and travel times must always be carefully considered. Many events involve the use of boats to transfer guests from one side of the lake to the other. A charming choice, but one that must be planned with care. This is not a destination to improvise.
Is Lake Como right for you?
Lake Como is perfect for those who want a wedding that is above all an experience. For those who imagine more than just a ceremony. A memorable weekend to share with guests, made of lakefront dinners, toasts under the stars, boat arrivals, photos that look like they belong in a glossy magazine. It requires a significant budget, but even more than that, it requires a clear vision.

Do I recommend it?
Yes I do, if you are looking for an unforgettable setting and are ready to invest the energy and resources it deserves. It is not the right choice for those seeking something intimate, simple or relaxed. But for those who love beauty without compromise, Lake Como is one of the most evocative places to say yes.
Alternatives to Lake Como?
If you love the idea of a lake wedding but are looking for a more relaxed or less showy atmosphere, there are at least two alternatives I feel like suggesting.
Lake Garda, with its Mediterranean charm, lemon groves, villages by the water and a variety of venues that really allows you to find your own scale.
Villa Bettoni and Villa San Vigilio are two gems, very different from one another, but both capable of combining elegance and authenticity. Garda is also more accessible in terms of logistics and remains one of my favourite destinations for events that seek a balance between style and spontaneity.
Lake Maggiore, on the other hand, has a quieter elegance that wins you over slowly. The Rocca di Angera, with its open views and frescoed rooms, is one of the most fascinating places I know. And the Borromean Islands are little suspended worlds, perfect for those dreaming of a wedding with a romantic and timeless atmosphere.
Each lake has its own soul. And part of my work is to accompany couples in discovering the one that resonates most with theirs.
